Hardware

DEFINITION
time saving factors are of critical consideration in the choice of quality parts selected to deliver the useful life demanded by our club’s level of activity.

Hardware embraces all sail shaping controls plus anything through which a line runs or cleats to (including blocks, fairleads, cleats, lifting bridles, traveler, down haul, voom vang, back stays) plus the interface with mast and boom for sail shaping controls i.e. down haul, cleat cuningham, voom vang, back stay, turnbuckles.

Hardware is reviewed annually for wear and replaced, if appropriate. Determine and recommend upgrade hardware for safety and efficiency to minimize wear (and lower cost of maintenance).

At a minimum, every 24 months, must replace hardware on main sheet to avoid twist on main sheet.

ALERT/WHY

  • Hardware sets the standards for the entire fleet: standardized fleet hardware is both a safety and economical force.
  • Some of Sail Chicago’s preferred parts must be special ordered because we use heavy duty and large quantity orders. Therefore many of our specialty parts are not inventoried at retail level and have lead times which must be considered.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Quality control expertise
  • Racing experience or serious interest
  • Mechanical /engineering background a plus
