Previous Sailing Time
People with previous sailing time may apply to take the Intermediate Sailing Skills class without
taking the Basic Sailing Skills class. If you can confidently rig a sailboat, sail upwind and downwind, and steer a boat through basic
maneuvers (tack and jibe), you are probably ready for the Intermediate Sailing Skills course. Fill out the back of the
New Student Membership Form (used to enroll in a class) with the details of your sailing
experience (boats and time) and we will decide if you qualify for bypassing the Basic Sailing Skills course. You must still attend Dryland.
Experienced Non-Sail Chicago Skippers
Non-Sail Chicago skippers who are confident they can sail a boat on their own are welcome to join Sail Chicago to gain
access to our fleet of boats. All new members who wish to bypass our courses must pay an initiation fee of $225.00 in lieu of a course fee. Your fee entitles
you to take up to five Checkout Preparation Classes, Dryland and one on-the-water checkout to
obtain your Skippercard. We recommend you enroll in several Checkout Prep classes to familiarize yourself with our procedures,
regulations, sailing environment, and boats. We also encourage you to attend Dryland as it is an excellent opportunity for you to meet other sailors and get to
know more about our club. Use the New Student Membership Form to apply.
