Fleet Racing Classes at Montrose Harbor
We will be offering Fleet Racing classes on Wednesday nights at Montrose Harbor this year. Wednesday night "beer can" racing is the perfect way to get your toe wet in fleet racing. This is a fun, casual race followed by an on shore BBQ at CCYC. You'll go out with an experienced fleet racing skipper and rotate positions on the boat each week. Develop the boat handling and sail trim skills, the basic knowledge of the racing rules and the confidence to be a Rhodes 19 fleet racing skipper.
Classes will be four weeks in length with up to three students per boat. Classes start at 5pm each Wednesday and meet at Montrose Harbor.
Prerequisite is a valid skipper's card and open racing, spinnaker class or R19 Fleet 12 crew experience.
Session 1 - TBD
Session 2 - TBD
Session 3 - TBD
Cost for the classes is $100 per person for each session. Students are responsible for buying their own meal at the BBQ following every race. E-mail Sally Hamann to register or for more information.
Fleet 12 Racing
at Montrose Harbor
Come race with the Rhodes 19 Fleet 12 at
Montrose Harbor under the auspices of the
Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC). There will
be two Sunday Race series and two Wednesday
night series starting in June and running until
Sept. See BTS for more details. There will also
be informal Spring and Fall series on Sundays in
April, May and October. If you are interested in
learning more about fleet racing go to the Fleet
12 web page at www.corinthian.org/rhodes. Open
racing and the other Sail Chicago programs at
Montrose harbor are geared to preparing you for
participation at this level of racing.
Regattas
There are also three regattas that Fleet 12 will
participate in during the summer. The Hobelman
Regatta in September is sponsored by Fleet 12 at
Montrose. The exact date will be announced. The
One Design Verve Regatta will be held at Belmont
Harbor on Aug 9 and 10 sponsored by Chicago
Yacht Club. Both are great regattas with many
other one design fleets, like the Shields,
Lightening, Vanguard 15s and 110s,
participating. Fleet 12 at Montrose also
sponsors the third R19 Tshudy Woman's Regatta on
July 27. These regattas are a great way to
experience the joy of racing on one day or one
weekend.
Crew
If you are interested in a crew position with
one of the fleet participants or with one of
Sail Chicago’s boats we can help you find a
spot. Crewing provides an excellent opportunity
to develop the skills this level of racing
demands. It’s also a ton of fun.
