Rhodes Racing
Open Racing
at Montrose Harbor
Open Racing starts at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday
mornings and runs until 1:00 P.M. or until all
of the boats are put away.
The Open Racing program is for student, novice
and experienced sailors who want to improve
their skills and have fun. It is not a class;
any member can attend based on interest and
availability. This is also an opportunity for
anyone who just wants to sail without having to
find his or her own crew.
Several short races are run so that student and
novice sailors learn from more experienced ones.
Rotating positions in the boat develops
teamwork. Sailors improve their starting
techniques, sail trim, boat trim, and tactics,
and learn the rules of racing. Although the
races are competitive, the emphasis is on having
fun while learning new skills.
The cost is $15 per session or four sessions for
$50.

Fleet Racing Classes at Montrose Harbor
We will be offering fleet racing classes on Wednesday nights at Montrose Harbor this year. The Wednesday night
“beer can” racing is the perfect way to get your toes wet in fleet racing. This is a fun, casual race followed by an
on shore BBQ at CCYC. You’ll go out with an experienced fleet racing skipper and rotate positions on the boat
each week. Develop boat handling and sail trim skills, basic knowledge of the racing rules and the confidence to
become a Rhodes 19 fleet racing skipper. Classes start at 5 PM each Wednesday and meet at Montrose Harbor.
Prerequisite is a valid skipper’s card and open racing, spinnaker class or R19 Fleet 12 crew experience.
Cost for the classes is $100 per person for four sessions. Students are responsible for buying their own meal at
the BBQ following every race. Email Sally Hamann at sallyhamann@aol.com to register or for more information
