Shields Racing For more information, see the Sail Chicago Handbook. Shields Racing RegistrationA flat rate will be due for Shields skippers and crew who plan to race frequently during the season. Please refer to the following levels of participation. All crew must attend at least one practice session before participating in a race. Contact Sam Veilleux to register as skipper or crew and select your preferred race days. 1. Racing Skippers: $300/skipper/season based on two skippers and an active crew commitment. This amount is subject to change based on funding needs of the program. In order to be scored, at least one skipper must be an active member of the Chicago Yacht Club and all dues and other requirements of CYC and Shields Fleet 3 must be met. 2. Racing Crew: $150/season or $25/race day or practice session. Crew who register at the $150/season level may also participate in Wednesday night beer can races at no additional charge. We encourage regular participation from our crew members. Fleet Racing ScheduleThe fleet racing schedule is posted under the one-design section of the Chicago Yacht Club web site at www.chicagoyachtclub.org Beer Can Races Beer can races are a great opportunity to get your feet wet with one short race followed by a social hour at the Chicago Yacht Club Belmont station, with cash bar and dinner buffet. Races are held most Wednesday nights throughout the season. We welcome new students and others wanting to try their hand at racing. The course varies and boats of all sizes enter, with staggered starts. There’s nothing quite like looking aft and seeing a whole fleet of offshore yachts bearing down on you.
