Rental Deposit Account

All sailboat rentals are paid for by withdrawing money from an individual's prepaid Rental Deposit account.

Members wishing to open a Rental Deposit account or add funds to an existing account should mail funds using the form provided on page 29 of the Sail Chicago Handbook.

The online Boat Reservation System will not allow you to rent a boat if your account balance cannot cover the cost of the rental.

What is a Rental Credit?

Credits are awarded by the Board of Directors as a perk for volunteer contribution in jobs which have been determined to be critical to Sail Chicago's continuing operation. These jobs typically involve year round or extensive services.

This includes: Rhodes and other boat program's instructors, Rhodes winter maintenance team leaders and Board of Directors members. Credits have nothing to do with volunteer service requirements. All these positions fulfill those requirements.

Credits are basically dollar equivalents added to the individual's prepaid rental account. Regardless of when the credit is entered in the account, at season's end the account will be recalculated using up all authorized credits before debiting any cash. The cost of the credits and, hence the boat's usage, is expensed to the program providing the perk; so like everything else, there is no free lunch. Credits expire at season's end and are not accrued.

Credit use is as authorized by the Board of Directors. This includes rental of any boat or up to one-half the cost of racing. They are not usable for instruction courses on any boats.
